Something In The Water (2024) Not the best shark film. In fact, it’s really good for a good fifty minutes or so.But in the last half hour, it gets quite long. Admittedly, we experience the drama at the same time as the ladies, and there’s a very natural feel to the film. But it’s hard to believe that you can stay in the water for so long… and avoid being attacked in the last ten minutes.
In short, there’s a great deal of exaggeration at the end. A good time. But if you really want to be entertained choose another film! It’s amazing how some film covers can be exaggerated, even misleading. When you see huge sharks charging down a swimmer’s legs, you know that what you’re about to see is going to be very different.
On the other hand, the image of the five friends floating on the surface of the water with a smaller shark below is much more accurate. The five actresses are absolutely fine. They did a fine job.It would be interesting to see them all in other roles. In any case, I didn’t know any of them. According to my research, it would seem that the British actress Lauren Lyle, who plays Lizzie, has played in the most series, shorts and films.
There are some touching moments. And the film shows how best friends can fight in a crisis. We also see how the best day of your life… can end up not happening. It’s all very dramatic.
It would be unfair and cruel to simply say that the director, Hayley Easton Street, is making her first film and should either stop or improve. Because, while this is indeed her first official film, she has worked as one of the world’s leading visual effects directors, helping to create some of the biggest blockbusters. Among them, so many well-known titles: Justice League: Part One, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, King Arthur, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Thor: The Dark World, Sherlock Holmes, X-Men: First Class…
What’s more, her short film ‘Stealth’ received critical acclaim at festivals around the world and was shortlisted for the prestigious IMDB award for Best New Director. Yes, one of the characters in the film is also called Hayley!
The film’s title translates as ‘Menace en eaux profondes’ in French… which means: Deep-sea threat. The film ends with a wonderful song by Birdy.
