Boot Camp (2008) I’m not just going to say that this film is boring and bad. I’ll try to elaborate a little. It’s a prison film for rebellious teenagers, with young actors playing bourgeois kids, without being really bad. It’s just an uninteresting story that will be forgotten pretty quickly! What’s more, there are probably plenty of inconsistencies in this film about some kind of cult. Very rich parents used to send their unbearable teenagers to this kind of place. But after some degeneration, things calmed down. Especially after at least forty deaths. And we still don’t know how many people were traumatised for life.

Yes, this kind of Boot Camp did exist. Even if it’s always hard to believe when it’s written that it’s based on a true story. There are certainly exaggerations… but unfortunately there were also moments that were much worse. The subject seemed interesting, but it’s a shame it was so badly exploited. The ending was too predictable and the characters not developed enough. Not to mention the acting, which sometimes bordered on the ridiculous. Only to be seen when there’s a shortage of films!

Yes… except that it’s always a treat to see Mila Kunis and Peter Stormare! Both in very good roles here. We won’t dwell on Gregory Smith, though, as he’s pretty bad. Suffer Island (in French!) has been re-titled in English (why???) didn’t have much to whet our appetites. It takes us to a desert island where troubled teenagers find themselves cloistered in order to be put back on the straight and narrow. While the tagline sounded tempting (‘Kidnapped, isolated, re-educated’), you’re quickly disillusioned by this nauseating thriller where nothing much happens. The plot is fairly implausible, there’s too much over-the-top romanticism and the ending is ridiculous.

As for the direction, it makes excessive use of natural light in the middle of the night and you can’t see a thing! I thought it was the versions I had access to that were of very poor quality, but even the best quality isn’t great.
