The Boy (2016) Ahhhhhh! If I could put 17 stars on Lauren Cohan alone, I would without hesitation.I don’t know what she was doing before Walking Dead, but I do think I’ll be following her career very closely. She’s an excellent actress who must love mimicking fear, given that she doesn’t really change register.
There’s no gore in The Boy, which is just as well for people like me. A film that mixes spirits and psychopaths quite skilfully. I wouldn’t give it 5 stars though. I’m not really sure why this time. Did I have the impression that once again I was going to be disappointed by the ending? It does tend towards a Happy Ending, as if one of the heroes didn’t need to be killed off so as not to make you too sad. But that doesn’t make it realistic either. There are a few inconsistencies. How has he not let himself be found or taken in 20 years? There are also three or four jump scares for the fans. We don’t see his face at the end. That certainly adds to the mystery. And the very end is disturbing. But also incoherent.
All in all, I got into this film very easily and was gripped the whole way through. But when the credits rolled, I was a bit disappointed. I would have liked something more. It’s still a very good film in its genre.
