Apartment 1303 (2013) It’s amazing how amateurish this film looks! The music sometimes appears in the wrong places. And it’s often too loud. There are over-exaggerations. How can you lift people up, throw them against walls in so many films and simply have them get up again with a mini injury? It’s like everyone’s a superhero when you watch these feature films. In the real world, you’d have a broken back, be a mess and spend days in hospital.

Mischa Barton and Rebecca De Mornay are, in my opinion, rarely in very good films. As for Julianne Michelle, I didn’t know her, but she did quite well at first, although there were times when she was very badly directed. Her monologues whenever she’s on her own don’t feel very natural. And, unfortunately, the more the film progresses, the more her performance leaves something to be desired. The same goes for Mischa. The special effects are poorly done, some of her reactions are pathetic and there are some ridiculous moments.

What’s more, it’s confusing: you don’t really know what the protagonists are seeing. You get the impression that they’re seeing the same thing as the viewer, but it’s very poorly explained and realised. The film gets worse and worse, the characters are uninteresting and there’s one more insufferable kid. Lame, badly acted, cheesy… No credibility, unintentionally funny. It’s a complete failure, a waste of time, a real piece of rubbish. Another short film that seems too long. In short, it’s…

The book must be better. It’s by the same author as The Grudge and I think a Japanese film was made first. Yes, in 2007, according to my research. On the cover, it says ‘Do not rent’! Clearly that was for the DVD, not the bedroom. Michele Taverna is unlikely to become one of my new favourite directors. In any case, I don’t think I’m the only one who thinks so, given that she seems to have disappeared.
