The Delmonas – Hello, We Love You (The Big Beat Eps)EP/2021 From the album: Dangerous Charms (1985) Two reviews in one!The band is best known as Thee Headcoats. They are a British female garage rock band from Chatham, Kent, England. They are a group of British female singers, first called The Delmona Five, then The Delmonas, who played during the 1990s. Their recordings are produced by Billy Childish and the vocals are accompanied by the musicians of Thee Headcoats.

The band members were Holly Golightly, Kyra LaRubia, Ludella Black and Bongo Debbie (aka Debbie Green), before they split up in 1999. Thee Headcoatees often played with… Thee Headcoats!

Yes, that’s a bit of a mixed bag. Basically, Thee Headcoats were led by guitarist/vocalist Billy Childish and this band was probably his most prolific project, producing fourteen albums.

Thee Headcoatees were formed in 1991 by Billy Childish as a choral group for his band. Hello, We Love You is made up of several of the band’s EPs. In fact, all these songs can be found on the 1985 album ‘Dangerous Charms’. They recorded two albums and a few EPs between 1984 and 1987.

The title track, Hello, We Love You, is a cover version. After the original by The Doors and the very original version by Adam Ant (creator of Ant Music), it was the female version that was missing! There’s also an excellent version of Peter Gunn mixed with The Locomotion.

As you can see, I’m not going to be very objective, because I love this style of music, which has a great sense of humour! This band is reminiscent of the legendary Bangles and the lesser-known The Pussywillows. The vocals sometimes remind me of Strawberry Switchblade. You could simply classify them as Pop or Rock, but it’s so much more to my ears. These girls are goddesses of garage rock, rock’n’roll and rockabilly.

OK, their songs are mainly written by Billy Childish and are songs that weren’t suitable for his own bands. But that in no way detracted from the quality of the band, on the contrary. Sadly, the band split up in 1999.

Holly Golightly went on to pursue a solo career, recording more than a dozen albums, and teaming up with bands such as The Greenhornes and The White Stripes.
