So…this is going to be quick! Sorry Mom has no shortage of humour, given that the first song begins with ‘I Fucked Yr Mom’, the band’s best-known and best-loved song, which tells someone that a girlfriend or acquaintance is having an affair with her mother. She tells the story, almost innocently, that it happened by chance, but then goes on to give the details. And you can hear the mother’s voice at the end of the song as she puts a message on the answering machine saying she’ll be back later!

As you’ll have gathered, Sorry Mom are a band with a great sense of humour… but it’s still the humour of very dirty, immature kids, very fat and very vulgar. Which must make them laugh even harder! So, yes, they’re a queer punk band whose music isn’t bad. But the lyrics… very little for me. It’s not what I’m looking for! Based in New York, they love playing music and basketball. They’ve shared the court with the likes of AJJ and two members of the Front Bottoms, for those in the know.

In the second song, ‘Awesome party, dude’, the singer says that she’s forgotten the date of your birthday, that it’s a nice party, but that she doesn’t love you any more and that she won’t be coming back here any more. The third song, ‘2006’, begins with an intro that sounds a little too much like ‘Boys Don’t Cry’, an early Cure masterpiece. Alas, this song doesn’t come close to matching that song whose intro was inspired by it. And it ends with some very aggressive screaming. Fourth song, Officer, That’s Not Mine! is probably the only song really worth listening to. That doesn’t stop it from being just as unsubtle as the others. Musically, it has a little something extra. In short, this is an EP that’s not essential to me and a band for rebellious teenagers who hate a lot of people. But it’s also ideal for those who love dissonance and need to let off steam in the midst of an existential crisis.

Alas, I already know too many bands like this that I really like for various reasons, which means that Sorry Mom probably won’t make it into my list of current or all-time favourite bands, unlike Momma, Adult Mom or Soccer Mommy. Mommy Long Legs, on the other hand, fall somewhere between the two categories. https://wearesorrymom.bandcamp.com/album/juno-goes-to-the-big-house-2
