The Blessing (aka Get The Blessing) – All is Yes (2008) Ahhhhh! My favourite jazz-rock band!If you ignore Frank Zappa. A band comparable to the recent Too Many Zooz and Lucky Chops, as well as the old Pigbag. All excellent! These bands also sometimes remind me of Haircut 100, except that they have lyrics and vocals.
Get the Blessing (formerly known as The Blessing) are a quartet based in Bristol, England. The band formed in 2000 when Jim Barr (bass guitar) and Clive Deamer (drums), who had played with Portishead, joined Jake McMurchie (saxophone) and Pete Judge (trumpet) in their appreciation of Ornette Coleman.Get the Blessing released six albums and All Is Yes is their first. And it was already a masterstroke! It won Best Album at the 2008 BBC Jazz Awards. It was more than deserved.
Their album Bristopia was released in 2018.Powerful, soaring, I never tire of it and can always return to this band with the same inexhaustible pleasure. Of course, if you don’t like jazz, rock or instrumental music, if you only like Pop, Metal, Opera or Rap, this band is obviously not for you. Especially if you’re not at all open-minded.
