Cherry Glazerr – I Don’t Want You Anymore (2023) Cherry Glazerr is an American indie rock band from Los Angeles, California. They have been active since 2013. Basically, the band was formed by Clementine Creevy (vocals, guitar), Hannah Uribe (drums) and Sean Redman (bass), based on a guitar-bass-drums trio and released a self-produced album Papa Cremp.
In 2014, they began to achieve the beginnings of notoriety with the release of their first proper album Haxel Princess, on 14 January 2014, on the Burger Records label, and then by playing at the SXSW festival. The members today are Clementine Creevy (who is the only one originally there), Tabor Allen (drums) and Devin O’Brien (bass). Sean Redman and Hannah Uribe have left, as has Sophia Muller (vocals in 2013), who joined just after the trio, but a certain Sasami Ashworth (synthesiser) joined in 2015 and left again in 2018.
“I Don’t Want You Anymore” is the band’s fifth album. I have nothing to reproach it with. I’ve always loved this band and I can listen to this gem over and over again. These musicians blend and mix Noise Pop, Garage Rock, Independent Rock and Grunge with great ease. They’re also very faithful to the Alternative Rock of the 90s. An ideal band for an introduction to these musical genres. Sometimes very simple, sometimes a little more complex, lots of power with a certain gentleness.
Calmer moments, never too far from the storm and the emotions that go with it. There’s an almost hysterical laughter at the end of Sugar, before moving on to the soaring sweetness of the next track, Golden (which features a brass section, in this case the trumpet, and some discreet electro sounds), which is certainly worth its weight in gold. As is Wild Times, which returns to a lively, danceable rhythm. There’s a lot of talent here, and not too much head-scratching, it seems to me. They must have been rocked by great music during their upbringing. I could spend hours dissecting every part of their songs, but the best thing is always to go and listen. That said, the cover might seem quite sexual or sensual and artistic to the more open-minded. It depicts a close-up of a woman’s crotch… and a white stain seems to censor the part you’re not supposed to see. But the stain is like a can of paint thrown over a huge painting. The orange colours are quite pretty.
The track ‘I Don’t Want You Anymore’ (which is also the closing track on the album) could be a rejection of a sexual relationship aimed at ending a romantic relationship. They also released an EP in 2014, a year after their creation, entitled ‘Had Ten Dollaz’. Now all we have to do is see them live! Hopefully. https://www.cherryglazerr.com/
