Quicksand (2023) Directed by the Colombian Andres Beltran, who doesn’t seem to have made any other films. However, to date he has made a one-season series with 8 episodes called ‘Ritmo Salvaje’, the synopsis of which is as follows: Two Colombian dancers with opposing interests clash on and off the dance floor, driven by a desire to succeed that leads them down a dangerous path.
This is the story of this film: An American couple on the verge of divorce travel to Colombia for a conference. While hiking through the rainforest, a storm traps them in a pit of quicksand. Unable to move, they must fight for their survival…As for the two lead actors: Carolina Gaitan appeared in Greatest Showman in 2017 as a backing singer. In 2021, Encanto, a Disney animated film, gave her a speaking and singing role, giving her voice to a character. Allan Hawco, meanwhile, has appeared in a number of feature films, including Hyena Road – The Trail to Hell (2015), Newborn (2017), The Child Remains (also 2017) and The Breach (2022).
Both actors come off quite well. There are moments where the direction could have been better, like the one where someone passes out, but suddenly wakes up at the right moment. This film is good entertainment, but quite stressful for those who, like me, are terrified of coming into contact with quicksand. And if only that were the only danger! Between the criminals and the dangerous creatures, we’ve got it covered! Quicksand is better than Serpent (2017). It’s also exaggerated at times, inevitably, but a little more realistic all the same. It’s still a good moment of suspense that won’t appeal to those who don’t value dialogue and just want action, chases and explosions. If you’re looking for a good comedy, you’ll have to pass, unless it’s other people’s misfortune that makes you happy in life!
