The Green Hornet (2010) A film based on a series starring Van Williams and… Bruce Lee! So that’s reason enough for die-hard fans to be disappointed here. The series has been adapted for the cinema several times. The latest is, to date, this film, directed by Michel Gondry. I saw it ten years ago, in 2014. As I wasn’t expecting anything… I was rather surprised. I laughed out loud and enjoyed the whole film.
The Green Hornet is a good, friendly and rather funny film. There’s a lot of humour even during the fights, which aren’t bad at all. I don’t really know where it fits in. Between Kick-Ass, Super, Batman and James Bond perhaps?I don’t know the comics or the previous series. But it was a good time!
The cast includes Cameron Diaz (The Mask, Charlie’s Angels, Vanilla Sky, Sex Tape, The Holiday), Tom Wilkinson (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Wilde, The Ghost Writer), Edward Furlong (Terminator 2, American History X), Seth Rogen (The 40 Year Old Virgin, The Fabelmans, Steve Jobs), Edward James Olmos (Miami Vice, Blade Runner), Jay Chou (The Treasure Hunter, Curse of the golden flower) and Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds, Tarzan, Water for Elephants, Carnage). They are all very good, if not excellent.
It wasn’t a hit, but I really liked it, I must admit! In fact, it’s a totally kitsch superhero film that takes a different approach, playing with the codes of the genre. The script is simple and fairly repetitive, but on the whole it’s pretty funny, focusing on the Green Hornet, a character with no superpowers whatsoever, and his sidekick Kato, as well as his crazy gadgets. As for the cast, Christoph Waltz once again gives a fine performance. Honest entertainment!
The scenario is simple (a superhero who wants to do good in the city), but it’s also quite watchable.
