Slasher in the Woods (2012) This film is known by several names: “Punishment”, “Down the Road” and the DVD title” Nobody Gets Out Alive“.

Well… anyway, a film called like that can’t be good ! Especially if you don’t like slashers!!! Why watch it then? Out of curiosity? One more time??? I’m always hopeful that I’ll come across something good. But once again, it fails! And yet, there are a few good moments in this film… but far too few to do it any good.

On the whole, the story, quite predictable, has insufferable teenagers who go to a place that’s highly inadvisable, even forbidden, just to show off their courage or their recklessness. At one point, they arrive at a shop where there are no staff, but they don’t ask themselves any more questions than that. They fall out with two other guys who add nothing to the story, they run into each other again and pretend they never quarreled, but then disappear again. The reason for the murders is an understandable, but nonetheless unrealistic, outburst. To start tracking down, torturing and killing people who enter a forest where there’s been a tragedy… I think there are better ways of dealing with traumas. And can you really continue to live in a house, in a forest, always having electricity and enough to eat when you’re completely cut off from society? And are there places where we know who the murderers are, but where the police never go to investigate? The scary thing is that the answer is probably yes.

But what kind of people are we protecting? Someone rich and in high places? Or a family man who’s lost everything and gone completely wild? It’s funny to ask yourself all these questions, knowing that the director probably didn’t ask himself. He just wanted to make a hilarious bloody entertainment for people who don’t want to think and see violence and sex. Of course, they’re all handsome and muscular. Except for the funniest and most endearing character… who dies first, of course! And after that spoiler moment, the film loses all interest and becomes more and more ridiculous with each passing minute.

The poor direction becomes more and more catastrophic as the logic goes. And that ending! Let’s not even talk about it… The most twisted and bloodthirsty will complain that in the censored version, there’s a quarter of an hour less. Personally, I can only complain that there wasn’t half an hour less.
