Elevation (2024) Director George Nolfi made the very decent The Adjustment Bureau (2011) with the duo Matt Damon and Emily Blunt. Later, he made Birth Of The Dragon (2016) inspired by true events about Bruce Lee. Before this film, he made The Banker in 2019.

This movie is a post-apocalyptic action thriller. What if the world didn’t end just yet? What if it was simply the end of human beings, killed and devoured by a new predator that would signal a sort of return to the dinosaurs or a new era with new creatures?

Well… I have to admit that I didn’t really like this film! To think that it cost 18 million dollars!!! And it looks like the actors’ budget was limited! It was shot in Colorado and there are no more than seven characters in it, if I don’t count all the village extras you see for a few seconds.

Obviously, this film reminded me of A Quiet Place (2018), which he shares the producer. But I don’t like that kind of feature film. Too unrealistic! So much so that I just can’t get into it. Another film with monsters, full of CGI. Another film where the actors and the scenery are the only interest. Another film where I didn’t believe it for a second. And obviously, we want to keep some of the mystery alive so that we can at least anticipate a sequel.

Anthony Mackie, Morena Baccarin and Maddie Hasson are a good trio, but I’d have preferred a whole team rather than one guy who has to save his son accompanied by two women who can’t get laid. Excellent start, then as soon as the journey begins, it’s still pretty good. But once you enter the mines, it loses its flavour and sinks into boredom. The exaggeration reaches new heights and you realise that this film isn’t full of surprises, but that it’s all déjà vu or predictable. The very end is nice… but when we find out what the creatures are made of, we’re in for a big disappointment.

Yes, I should only speak for myself, I know that. But I have a feeling that so many people will agree with me that I couldn’t help myself. I don’t know if this film will be successful enough (you never know, anything is possible!) to bring its sequel to light. But I can’t see how it could put right such a blunder. It’s just going to make her look even worse.
