Pacifica – Not a Cover Band (2022) Inés & Martina, the Buenos Aires-based Argentinian rock duo Pacifica, probably best known for their live cover of A-Ha’s “Take on Me”, are a musical duo formed by two friends they met on the Internet. Inés Adam is a singer and guitarist. Martina Nintzel plays bass. In 2022, after a life-changing trip to New York, they signed to the Los Angeles-based Tag Music label based in Los Angeles. Their music is as rock as you could wish for. But that didn’t stop them from doing a Cumbia version of the song Razorblade.
‘Take On Me’ has been sampled, parodied and covered countless times. One of the most famous covers is by Reel Big Fish, who did a hilarious Ska-Punk version. And let’s not forget its appearance in films, commercials and even video games like Just Dance. The Pacifica cover smells of fuzz accompanied by sax!
Their live album from 2024 is called Freak Scene.
I fully appreciate this band and these seven tracks that are considered an album, but don’t even last twenty minutes! It sure beats the number of tracks and the length of a simple EP.
The perfect blend of 90s and indie rock. All the ingredients needed to become a great band. Their songs are better than anything in Spotify’s Top 20. It’s really excellent.
I hope to see them one day somewhere in Europe… or even elsewhere.
It’s clear that these girls are inspired by The Strokes!
It’s always a pleasure to discover an indie rock band that sounds so authentic and fresh right away, as well as the fact that they come from a Latin American country. Just goes to show… the music we love can be created anywhere.
Inés & Martina, Good luck with this project, I hope you’ll come up with many more songs with as much soul as ever!
