Backlight (2010) a.k.a. The Signal(EU title) When fantasy meets humanism…What a wonderful surprise this Portuguese film is!

I thought this review was nice: ‘To be recommended to all those who loved the spirit of the mythical “Twilight Zone” series – in particular the episode “I know what you need” – as well as to those who will always prefer a good, deep story to a deluge of special effects.

A script that focuses on the characters. I’ve watched this film several times and I never tire of it.
There’s something simple, beautiful and fascinating about it. Touching!

The synopsis was interesting and when I saw the film… it was a big surprise! One of the most beautiful films of 2013 that I’ve seen. Magnificent, extremely well scripted. A succession of overlapping stories and characters. Brilliant actors and actresses, with a brilliant premise. And the soundtrack!

There are also some splendid landscapes and a magnificent ending. An anticipation mystery road trip worthy of the greatest films. And to think that these idiots put it on ‘direct to DVD’! What a bunch of ***!!!

No, seriously, I’ve rarely loved a film as much as this one. A beautiful story in which every detail counts, stories that fit together with clever, well-orchestrated flashbacks that aren’t annoying or boring.

The special features, such as the GPS and the telephone, are just excuses to show that nothing in the world happens by chance, that everything is connected. Although the story may seem a little long, at times it is necessary to understand the story as a whole. This film restores faith and proves that it’s still possible to make magnificent films with very little money.

I’ve just read some ultra-negative reviews of this film from people who hated it, didn’t understand a word of it, found it predictable, mocked the slow motion, thought the actors were bad… And I can’t help but jump up and down, horrified by the stupidity of those who believe, no doubt, that open-mindedness is a crack in the skull and the brain. How appalling! Where have human values gone? And yet I knew I shouldn’t read them and hurt myself unnecessarily.
Anyway!

A captivating storyline and well-rounded characters make for a great moment of adventure and reflection on the future of the planet.

The special effects, never gratuitous, are brilliant.
Exceptional!
Nothing to throw away!
Thank you for this moment of tenderness and morality. Thank you and thank you again… even if the ending is sad (in a certain way).
