Nekrotronic (2018) The world of Kiah Roache-Turner is very special indeed! There’s no denying it. These Australian films aren’t bad at all. But there’s a big mix of nonsense, one or two gory scenes, lots of action, more or less endearing characters… and some really wacky humor.
Ben O’Toole plays the guy who becomes a hero without really wanting to. As a result, he has all the naiveté of a character who doesn’t really understand what’s happening to him. This can be annoying and silly at times.
Monica Bellucci has found the role of a great wicked witch with great powers. Did she really have to go all the way to Australia to find this?
She doesn’t do too badly.
It’s hard to believe it’s her… but it’s fun and funny.
Caroline Ford & Tess Haubrich play the film’s two strong female characters. They’re excellent. Very funny & ultra charming.
As for Thorn Bob Savea, he’s insufferable at first. But as the film progresses, his character becomes increasingly useful, charismatic and important.
For the record: I first saw this director’s Wyrmwood: Apocalypse (Wyrmwood 2).
Then I moved on to Wyrmwood (the first) and ended up with Nekrotronic.
My verdict is… that Wyrmwood: Apocalypse is this director’s best film. That means he’s getting better. Nekrotronic was made between the two, so I knew I wasn’t going to be really disappointed.
So I gave Wyrmwood and Nekrotronic three stars, compared with four stars for Nekrotronic.
These films, with their excellent rhythms, gave me a great time. But let’s not lose sight of the fact that these aren’t really mainstream films.
