Evil Dead 2 (1987) by Sam Raimi. I’ve never been a huge Evil Dead fan. During all those films, I ask myself: “What the hell am I doing watching this???” Except maybe the third one. But the more I see it, the less I like it.

That said, there’s still a lot to say about these films. I never really knew if they were parodies. In any case, I can clearly see the humour in them, and it’s not necessarily the worst humour. But alas, it’s also one of the most unhealthy and gory films, so it’ll never get a 5-star rating from me. On the other hand, I can’t give it just one star either, just for the humour and the lead actor. Most of the actors are relatively bad, and even that, I don’t know if it’s intentional or not, but in any case, only Bruce Campbell really stands out. This Scream King, with all his incredible facial expressions and grimaces, has my respect. And I appreciate his loyalty to Sam Raimi. It’s hard to believe that Raimi made the best Spider-Man trilogy ever! I still can’t believe it.

This film is probably one of the most talked-about B-movies ever made.

No, really, there’s something really good about Evil Dead that means I still had to watch it once. The old ones, at least. But I’m clearly not going to recommend them to anyone who hates horror; this film isn’t going to make them appreciate the genre.

There’s no logic in these films, no coherence. It’s just a lot of nonsense, constantly absurd and full of disgusting scenes, all rather well made. Yes, it’s well shot, and the special effects are hilarious and not always badly done. It’s even impressive at times, and the makeup and creatures are still quite disturbing and frightening.

That’s it! This is just my vision. But I’m proud of it!

Rating: 3 out of 5.
