The Collector (2009)

Not for me! This is Home Invasion at its most damaging to the eyes and brain. No wonder the producers of Saw 4, 5 and 6 are in on the act!

In fact, from the very first scene, right from the opening credits, you know you’re in for something very unhealthy. Everything about it is disturbing: the colour of the film, the image in general, the cruelty. This is a terribly violent film. This time, fans of gore and ultra violence are in for a treat. But not for me!

We don’t know why or how.
Why did this killer choose this house?
Just to make a/this movie? And we’re supposed to believe that?
And when did he find the time to set his traps? At first, it doesn’t seem like they’re there, but they appear as we go along.

Why does the policeman always come alone? And never lasts long before reinforcements arrive?

It’s crazy, you get the impression that the main character can’t leave the house… and that he always goes back upstairs. He’s tough, he survives where almost anyone else would be dead in five minutes. And apparently he’s also the hero of the second opus. Not sure I’ll be going to see it…

It’s a long way behind Funny Games (1997 & 2008), even further behind You’re Next (2011) or Don’t Breathe (2016) and the opposite of the excellent Panic Room (2002).

Rating: 0.5 out of 5.
