The Lawnmower Man (1992) is not really a good horror film, but it has aged well. I think the film already had a B-movie feel to it when it came out. The ‘cyberspace’ theme was new in this film; otherwise, the story is ok, but it’s not really exciting nor very well done. There are 2 top castings, that’s it for me. Indeed, Pierce Brosnan & Jeff Fahey are great in this film.

I’m a little outraged! I read a review that said, “this is in the totally overrated ‘the crow’ category and declared a cult solely because it’s old.” It’s despicable and above all totally unjustified to compare this film to The Crow! To each his own, okay… but you really don’t know what you’re missing when you talk like that. But anyway, what does “bad” mean? Another reviewer quite rightly pointed out: “It seems that some of the critics here are children who are so dazzled by the graphical power of the current generation of PCs that they make a face as soon as a film’s special effects look or feel old-fashioned (in which case, don’t ever watch the original ‘Tron’, poor things! And don’t touch films like ‘Wargames’ or ‘Electric Dreams’ either). The story is great (but probably a bit too sophisticated for some people) and the actors too! For anyone with good taste (and maturity), this film is definitely to be recommended, as it is an intelligent and exciting classic!”

Another reviewer says, “I think a portrait of a man mowing the lawn for 1.5 hours would have come out even better than this film. Then the title of the film would also be appropriate. BAD!” I’ve also heard or read that there’s too much time wasted. That’s a risk you have to take every time you go into a movie. This film is one of the worst films I’ve ever seen: badly acted, and also completely badly made. I read that everywhere, and every film is someone’s worst film! As the next one proves: “Help! Don’t watch this film. The time needed can be better spent. The worst film of all time.”

However, another perspective exists: “Bad movie? The film is world class! Virtual reality as you’ve never seen it before. If you’re freaky modern, a must-see! If you have nothing against science fiction and CGI: Buy it!” Here, another opinion that defends it: “Top story!” Or Top story, it doesn’t matter! Once again, a good Stephen King adaptation. A great author, a cool story, a director’s cut—and at this price…? The heart of the moviegoer—what more do you want…?

Here, I had fun translating the other comments! For my part, a funny little film, but disturbing. I haven’t read the book, which obviously has to be better, like most of the time.

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.
