Code Name Banshee (2022) It wasn’t from the start of the film that I knew it was going to suck.It was even before I started watching it.
Why was that? Because Jaime King is in the cast! I don’t know if a good film with her exists. At times, her acting made me laugh, she has such bizarre reactions. I don’t know if it’s really bad acting or if she’s just trying to give her character a style… but she’s clearly unintentionally funny when she overacts.
As for Antonio Banderas, it’s always a pleasure to see him. But not necessarily in all action films. I love him in comedies and dramas too.
Tommy Flanagan is quite charismatic in this film. I don’t know him much more than that, it seems to me. He’s rarely in films that interest me, apart from The Butterfly (2017) which I really liked.Jon Keeyes is a director who seems to like Banderas, but also Jonathan Rhys Meyers and John Malkovich. He’s also directed Dominique Swain in a lead role in a horror film, when usually it’s more Action Thriller that’s his thing, which is his favourite area.
The film tells the story of a freelance assassin, codenamed Banshee (King), who is ambushed by Anthony Greene (Flanagan), a powerful mercenary who killed his father and now seeks a bounty on Caleb (Banderas), his former black ops mentor. Caleb went underground five years ago, setting off a race against time. Banshee must find and protect Caleb before Greene and his army of hitmen find him and eliminate him.
Well, it’s not the worst film I’ve seen, so it won’t get the lowest score, but it’s far from good. The dialogue is nice, but nothing more. The fights can make you laugh, because you can see clearly when it’s the stuntmen or the real actors. It’s the brush cuts that are particularly funny.Young Catherine Davis is excellent, though. This teenager has the coolest role here.On the whole, I’d advise avoiding this film, because it’s just not bad. You’ll find plenty of better things to watch!
