Strange Darling (2023) This film is considered a masterpiece. Once again, I’d like to make it clear:

1) just because a film is rubbish, bad and failed doesn’t mean it’s a masterpiece!

2) just because you see a beautiful young woman half-naked for most of the film doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a masterpiece!

And the list goes on! Just because a film is very violent and gory, and not edited in the right chronological order, doesn’t mean it’s a masterpiece, nor if almost all the music is good (it gets boring in the long run!) and just because actors overact doesn’t mean they’re good actors. It’s apparently important to remember that.

Anyway! I’m going to stop being too hard on this film and admit that it’s full of good ideas and surprises. We’re inevitably taken for a ride and the plot twists are amazing.

No, I’m just kidding! There are a few plot twists, but only one is really worth it. There are too many scenes that are far too long. The film has brilliantly squandered its potential.

It doesn’t make me want to see this director’s other film, Outlaws and Angels (2016). JT Mollner must think he’s a bit of a genius, especially as this film received quite a few stars and positive reviews, it seems to me. Either it’s a bluff, or it’s confirmation that the most successful films are regularly the worst.

The very uncharismatic Willa Fitzgerald has played with a number of great actors in a number of other bad films. Not so Kyle Gallner, who is unfortunately not the lead actor. He played in Smile 2 (2024), Scream 5 (2022) and Danika (2006), among others.

No, really, I hated this film. The more the film progressed, the less I bought into its humour and the more firmly bored I became. The ending is almost good, but the last scene lasts so long that I almost saw my life flash by…

Rating: 1 out of 5.
