Finale (2018) also known as The Ringmaster (2018). What a shame! It’s become so common to see really bad films—too many for my taste. The first part is a perfect thriller, with very good suspense. Alas, the second part sinks into everything I detest and lacks the subtlety of the first part. This second part drowns in ultra-violence, gore, torture porn, and everything else that is pathetic in today’s horror cinema. We just want to shock as much as possible.

It’s always the same thing: these films miss the mark! They want to denounce the evil rich who are sadists, but there’s never any mention of the good-hearted rich, and films like this make you forget all about them. They want to denounce the Dark Web… but this kind of film only encourages and promotes it. It’s really hypocritical, because we don’t live in an age where we want to make people think, but instead we want to create a buzz.

The actors are OK, but I’m going to pretend I’ve never seen them! The film’s aim is appallingly stupid: to give Denmark a bad name! Just like Hostel did with Slovakia and the Czech Republic. These films are very comparable—same kind of film, same kind of ending. In fact, I haven’t finished watching the whole thing as I write these lines. But it’s clear to me that even an incredible or just subtle ending isn’t going to save this piece of rubbish from all the negative stars I’d like to give it.

That’s it, I’ve finished it. And, alas, I was right! A catastrophic first film for Soren Juul Petersen. I’ll be as careful to avoid him as I will Eli Roth, because they’re both the same: they write and direct the kind of films that mankind could easily do without.

Rating: 1.5 out of 5.
