Species 2 (1998)

It is a great pleasure to see again Marg Helgenberger and Michael Madsen in their respective roles.

On the other hand, Natasha Henstridge has a much less interesting role than in the first one. She’s practically locked up throughout the film. And the fact that she has feelings and ends up on the right side because she was treated well during her confinement… it’s not great!

It doesn’t work too well here.

It’s like taming an Alien.

Forest Whitaker, one of the few survivors of the first one, must not have wanted to return to service. Or maybe the writers didn’t find anything for him to come back to.

A bit too sexual for my taste, especially the last fight between the two creatures. This is even more apparent once you know the world of H. R. Giger (Hans Ruedi Giger). At least his creatures have appeared in Hollywood films. But where Alien had many subtleties, Speecies has none. And for me, it loses almost all its interest.

The story is not great.

For my part, it was clear enough at the beginning that I was just going to see two and that it’s obvious that the sequels are going to be a pointless waste of time.

I’m not interested in Peter Medak’s films either.

I’ll probably see “The Changeling (1980)” one day.

But I don’t want to go any further.

Rating: 2 out of 5.
