Jurassic World: Rebirth (2025)

It’s so funny and quite amazing!
We’re all different, even if we have things in common when you think of it.

Yes, I’ve read a lot of bad things about this film and yet I enjoyed it. At least, I didn’t think it was that bad! And that’s not my spirit of contradiction. At least not this time!

But you have to wonder how Spielberg can still be executive producer. I also wonder what Michael Crichton, who wrote the first film, thinks of all these sequels. I saw that he has just released ‘Eruption’ in collaboration with James Patterson. A Thriller that will certainly have its own film too!

So, I confess, I’m also one of those people who don’t want these franchises to go on forever.
I wouldn’t mind there never being another Scream, Ghostbusters and so on. That said, it was Scarlett Johansson who made me go for this film so quickly. I don’t think she’ll ever disappoint me. I remember when I discovered the poster while eating my lunch in a café belonging to a cinema. I knew I’d see it as soon as I could.

What do you look for in a Jurassic World based on Jurassic Park? Seriously??
No, because you can just keep going round in circles with the same old ‘the actors aren’t great, the story’s rubbish, the special effects have been seen a thousand times, this film doesn’t add anything to the others, Hollywood’s been eaten up, etc.’!
Yes, we really get that now !!!

Personally, I’m looking for a bit of info on dinos, some great action scenes, magnificent landscapes, gigantic scary creatures… and in that respect, we’re not doing too badly here. If all you’re looking for is beautiful women in skimpy outfits, a big-name cast and a rock-solid script, don’t look there!

Let me remind you that I’ve loved all the films in this franchise. Yes, I haven’t found any of them completely rubbish. Not even the third of the first trilogy ;-P
But none of them are perfect, either, unfortunately.

In fact, the first Jurassic Park (1993) is the only one that’s essential for setting up all the stories in the others. The second is as action-packed as all the others! And after that, we continue in the same vein. The first Jurassic World was very good, the second a little less so and the third as good as the first.

This one, however, falls short of the previous trilogy.
Good!
The first part, in the ocean, is a bit long. The family doesn’t necessarily add anything to the story, apart from a few extra action scenes.

Jurassic World: Renaissance tries to be faithful to everything we’ve already seen. There are nods to the two trilogies (with its raptors, T-Rexes and other creatures), to the fact that dinosaurs can become (apparently!) pets, to the fact that many other teams have visited these dangerous places. But there’s also the genetic modification that was introduced in the second trilogy. Since the visitors had had enough of the basic creatures, new ones had to be created. And…

Here, the genetically modified dinosaur is more reminiscent of a giant Alien than a dino. It also reminded me of the famous Rancor! Basically, the director must have enjoyed Aliens (1986) and Return of the Jedi (1983)!

Incidentally, Gareth Edwards is at the helm. Those who loved Godzilla (2014) are likely to be less disappointed than those who loved Rogue One (2016), which is by far one of the best episodes to come out of Star Wars.

To conclude:

Once again, a film that is above all entertainment and a great spectacle, wearying for those who have seen them all, but perhaps magical for those seeing a dinosaur film for the first time.

And I’ll save you some time: if ever, we don’t see any of the actors from the other films again!
But they were all reunited in the previous film, so we’re not going to complain.

Rating: 3 out of 5.
