The Dogs (2022)

This film held my interest for about forty minutes. That’s not bad… but it’s still a waste of time! Even if the ending is quite good. If this is Valerie Buhagiar’s first film, she’d better improve or change jobs.

She already appeared in Highway 61 alongside… Jello Biafra!!!
Yes, yes, the punk singer from the Dead Kennedys. Well, he’s not exactly a cinematic reference, since he also appeared in the very bad Bikini Bandits (2002). He’s perfect as the lead singer of his punk band, but when it comes to cinema, he needs to try again!

To save you wasting your time, you should know that the dogs are hardly ever seen, even though they’re in the title. And they’re not what I imagined them to be, nor how I would have liked to see them. And that’s a lot! It even makes all the difference.

The actors are decent overall. But I’ll especially remember Kathleen Munroe, who reminded me of some of my favourite actresses, including Emily Blunt and Olivia Wilde.

The film has a rather poetic side to it, especially at the end. It has a supernatural and esoteric feel to it. It’s not gory, there’s no torture or extreme violence, which, for me, are always plus points. But unfortunately, it also has a certain dullness and some unfinished details, such as the one who bullies the main teenager at school, as well as all the students who think he’s crazy.

It’s a film that’s nice to know about, but absolutely not essential.

Rating: 2 out of 5.
