An American horror film that lasts an hour and forty-eight minutes… too long!
In fact, it’s yet another useless film to be added to an endless list of lousy films to avoid. Written by Henry P. Gravelle and directed by Sean Cronin, two names I’m going to cross off carefully.
This film was released on VOD, or “Video On Demand”, which means you can watch films or TV series streaming, whenever and wherever you want, without having to download the file. It can be accessed via various platforms such as Netflix, Amazon Prime Video or Disney+. How sad! Yes, it is sad to have so much access to such rubbish.
It’s simply a very bad film with a ridiculous script and very few actors who hold up. There are maybe four who don’t act too badly like Sean Cronin as Madison, the vampire leader; Eloise Lovell Anderson as Jody, the main character’s girlfriend and Poppie Jae Hughes as the little girl Lily.
Sarina Taylor doesn’t do too badly either! Do you know Sarina Taylor? Yes, she’s Roger Taylor’s wife. No, not Duran Duran’s drummer, but Queen’s drummer. Sarina has the face of a vampire! You don’t see her that much, but you can tell she’s been having a good time. I wonder what her husband thinks of her role and this film. Unconditional love or not?
In any case, the lead actor, Arifin Putra, has no charisma whatsoever. I don’t get the impression from watching him that he’s cut out for this job or that a great career awaits him. Not in this film, anyway!
The character of Madison is often dripping with drool. So I’m sure the director and actor must have found it very funny, but it really does add a disgusting touch. If you’re sensitive to that sort of thing, this is not the film to have on your dinner tray.
This film is full of clichés. No, you don’t just need pretty actresses like Katie Sheridan and Sophie Lovell Anderson (Eloise’s sister, no doubt) to make a good film!
For people discovering vampires with this film, it might pass muster. But for all the biggest fans of films in this genre, this film is a real disgrace for vampires. We see them during the day, even though they live at night… but only die when a ray of sunlight hits them directly. During the day, they live in dark rooms. In fact, they never sleep!
There’s a fair amount of blood, quite foul, but not pure gore either. We’ve seen far worse. The make-up is pretty well done.
We don’t really know where these characters are going or what they really want to do. A lot of things are unclear and very clumsy. The whole thing is extremely badly put together. The first few minutes aren’t too bad, but we sink into boredom very quickly.
The closer you get to the end, the more the film becomes genuinely comic. There are some pretty funny moments, such as a vampire who says he wants to leave his wife. She replies, ‘We’re married!’ And he retorts, “Yes, but until death! And we died a long time ago!!!”
There you have it, if this humour makes you want to see this film in spite of everything, you should know that there isn’t much of it. In fact, it’s as if having rewatched the first part, the team have realised that the film is funny because it’s really ridiculous and have told themselves that, in the end, we’re going to make it look like it’s really a comedy film.
We should also remember that Sarah Alexandra Marks was already in another terribly bad film: Escape (2023)! Career choices that can be fatal…
