What a shame…
Yes, it’s a shame that the director went so far into extremes. It’s very difficult to pull off a black comedy successfully – as seen in Shallow Grave (1994) or Murder by death (1976) – and the otherwise excellent director of Triangle (which was particularly well balanced) and Creep has, in my opinion, really missed the mark here. The Grand Guignol of Tales from the Crypt is amusing, but the heavy gore that is meant to be comical sadly falls flat.
Once again, it’s a shame, because the original script could have made a good film in more subtle hands – either more serious or less outrageous. This film is far from funny. There are very few moments that raise a smile.
Once again, it’s just butchery. And this film is no better than any chainsaw massacres.
