Stuck (2007) is a powerful film!
Brandi is a young woman who lives life in the fast lane. One night, while returning home from a night out drinking, she crashes her car into a stranger. The man literally crashes into her windscreen. Incredibly, he is still breathing. But terrified of going to prison, Brandi does the unthinkable: she decides to leave him to die in her garage…
Basically, how to have the shittiest day ever… when you already have one of the shittiest lives ever!
There are lots of annoying moments, but that’s because we can’t necessarily identify with the main character. We try to understand her, but she’s still pretty crazy. But then again, we also see lots of things that don’t work in our society!
When you call the emergency services, you have to give a whole series of answers to someone on the other end of the line who is often completely devoid of feelings and emotions. Of course, if you’re an ultra-emotional person, things wouldn’t get done either.
We also witness the lives of people who don’t care about other people’s problems.
It’s sad! Very sad!
Mena Suvari in a special role. For those who want to see her more than naked, but also enjoying herself in the sexual act, for those who want to see her with braids, for those who want to see her finally in a leading role…
For her fans, basically!
I watched this film in several sittings (due to lack of time) and each time I was dying to know what happened next. It has a very dark sense of humour, with a criminal who says to her victim: ‘Why are you doing this to me???’
In fact, that’s one of the film’s problems. It’s hard to take it too seriously in the end, because it veers into mockery and completely dark humour before returning to a tragic storyline.
It’s a slightly odd film that could have been much better, but it’s still worth watching. An unbearable scene, forced laughter, a film that is not for the faint-hearted, once again. And I really liked the ending…
So I’m not going to downgrade it to two stars, but upgrade it to three!!!
I saw this film about eight years ago. There are lots of things I didn’t know at the time. I didn’t know that the story was based on real events. In reality, the driver was black, and she spent her time apologising to her victim, who was still alive, without actually saving her. She called lots of people except the ones she should have called first: the emergency services!
In reality, the story ended much worse. So I appreciate even more this final touch that makes all the difference. This feature film really made an impression on me. I know I will watch it again one day. Stephen Rea is also excellent. I will never forget his last look in this film. I am raising the rating to 3.5 stars.
