Nerve (2016) is an American thriller starring Dave Franco.

When I saw the poster, I was very sceptical about this film. It was thanks to a review by an old friend that I decided to watch it, as we often agree on things. I didn’t really want to see it either, just like him.

Well, I’m not as enthusiastic about it as he is. It’s a good film, but it runs out of steam and becomes overly exaggerated. So… I don’t necessarily agree that it’s a case of ‘you either love it or you hate it’, because I’m somewhere in between, feeling rather ambivalent about it.

It’s like an episode of Black Mirror, but American-style, without the British subtlety!

When I saw Dave Franco, I thought he looked like James Franco… without knowing that he was actually a Franco!
Indeed. I didn’t really know him at the time.

All the new actors are quite nice in this film.

The directing duo did a good job, with a good pace. It’s an interesting idea, and the film is watchable.

But then again… it’s not one of the best films I’ve seen, but it’s worth a look. It’s a good critique of today’s society: having the most followers, the most of this, the most of that, to the point of dying, or at least causing death.

Rating: 3 out of 5.
