A film that joins the ranks of other harrowing films such as 3096 Days: The Natascha Kampusch Story (2016), Girl In The Basement (2021) and Girl in the Shed: The Kidnapping of Abby Hernandez (2022). All stories of children or teenagers who have been kidnapped and often abused. Soโ€ฆ films that are not suitable for all audiences.

Kara Robinson Chamberlain was held captive for 18 hours before she was able to escape and seek justice. Stories like this always get to me and make me feel sick. It reassures me to know that I’m not a psychopath, at least!

Unfortunately, we can say that we live in a pretty rotten world in some respects.

A comment under the film said: โ€˜I met Katie Douglas at the bar when she was filming this movie in my town. She was so nice.โ€™ Yes, I have no doubt she must be lovely!

In fact, Katie Douglas has always been fabulous. I loved this extraordinary Canadian actress in Level 16 (2018) and in the television film Thicker Than Water (2019). I haven’t seen Lazareth (2024) or Clown in a Cornfield yet, but I will!

Apparently, she made another film very similar to this one: Believe Me: The Abduction of Lisa McVey by Jim Donovan. It’s very weird, almost disturbing because it’s almost the same story.

Her performance alone deserves five stars. But the actress who plays her mother, ๐—–๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ ๐—•๐˜‚๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ผ, is also incredible! This gives even more power to an already hard-hitting film. In fact, it’s more of a television film, but not just any television film.

Kristian Bruun, who plays the detestable Richard Evonitz, is strikingly realistic. One can only laugh bitterly at his performance. One wonders why such actors were chosen to play such criminals. Then I think to myself that they must have tremendous strength and courage to accept being associated for life with characters that no one wants to be around. Except the most disturbed, of course! But should we really take them into account? Personally, I don’t want to pay them any attention.

๐—ž๐—ฎ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ ๐—ฅ๐—ผ๐—ฏ๐—ถ๐—ป๐˜€๐—ผ๐—ป was extremely honest in answering all of his attacker’s questions. On that note, remember these things: 1) Your parents are ALWAYS AT HOME. Whether you’re at a friend’s house or not, home alone or not, your parents are AT HOME.

  1. Give a false name!
  2. If you’re stuck in the boot of a car, kick the rear light out.
  3. If you are trapped somewhere, try to leave as much DNA as possible. Hair, saliva, anything will do.

And 5) I hope that none of this EVER happens to us!!!

It is always very difficult, if not impossible, to put ourselves in the shoes of these victims. How can we truly empathise with someone for whom every second felt like a whole minute and every moment gave way to the unexpected, which could tip the balance between life and death?
A biopic, drama and thriller that is quite hard to watch, but whose intimacy has been preserved. We clearly feel the horror of these situations; there is no need to show more.

All the actors did a very good job, whether it was the Sheriff, the Sergeant or the Lieutenant. I can’t remember their names, but you can find them in the end credits.

A great moment, not of wonder, of course, but of intense emotion that cannot leave a pure heart indifferent. Because yes, it feels good to feel human and alive while we still are.

Warning! Spoiler alert for the entire story:

The story of a young woman who survived and managed to stop a serial killer. Fifteen-year-old Kara was approached by a man who put a gun to her head and forced her into his car. He took her to his flat, held her captive and sexually assaulted her. While he was asleep, Kara escaped and led the police to the flat, where she identified her captor, a serial killer responsible for at least three unsolved murders.
The fact that this is a true story is incredible. I am so glad that Kara survived.

Rating: 5 out of 5.
