Meh…

Yes, Milla Jovovich is still perfect. The other actors (Stephen Dorff, Angus Macfadyen, Aisha Tyler) are also pretty good. Does that save the movie?

Personally, I found it quite unbearable, but being a film buff, I usually watch until the end.
Even things I can’t stand! Just to try and find something positive.

There is a kind of unhealthy reality in this film. People like that really exist, but you don’t want to be around them. There’s also a big mix of taboo and rather serious subjects (women who are beaten or killed but who love their partners, homosexuality, even bisexuality…), but the dialogue makes you end up laughing at it. It jumps from drama to comedy in a destabilizing way, which isn’t really well done.

Plot twists, betrayals…
Nothing very positive, in other words!
What’s more, there’s an excess of insults and vulgarity.

Too much violence for those who wanted to see a comedy, too much sex for those who wanted a romantic love story, too comical for those who just wanted gang wars in New York! But also sufficiently caricatured so that people who are really like that don’t have the brains to recognise themselves in it!!!
In short…

Director Gary Lennon really missed the mark here. This film will not go down in history as a thriller masterpiece. It’s not quite what I expected after seeing the cover and reading the title, but it’s still somewhat entertaining.
Well… I’m saying that because I’m feeling kind and in a good mood today!

Pretty average, sometimes not bad, the ending more than predictable… and Milla, despite her devastating charm, unfortunately doesn’t save the film… and, in case you’re wondering, ‘Where’s the Kill Bill-style revenge machine?’, I’d say: Not here, anyway!!!

Not a must-see film, but it’s always a treat to see Milla, that’s for sure!
Two stars, just for her, once again.

Rating: 2 out of 5.
