V/H/S (2012)

Quite a dud, alas!

Several directors, including Ti West, who also did the letter M in the first “ABC of Death”, as well as the very good “The House of the Devil”.

A film that’s something of a potpourri of horror films! Yes, it’s an anthology!

There’s Paranormal Activity, Possession, Vampire (or something similar)…

Nothing really original. There are some good ideas, but they’re badly managed and badly constructed. The hand-held camera, introduced by the much overrated Blair Witch Project, doesn’t hit the mark every time. At certain points in the film, it should have been avoided.

Wait a minute! I’m not saying that The Blair Witch Project (1999) is rubbish, but it’s a film you should only see once or twice. It’s not so exceptional that you need to see it regularly, but it’s important because it really launched found footage. Sadly, it’s a genre I can’t stand at all these days.

Basically, I don’t really want to see the sequel to this V/H/S film, because it seems to me that they’re making a few of them. Unless, perhaps, I motivate myself to waste my time for the pleasure of reviewing them!

Perhaps the biggest horror fans will find them really good. The various short stories are interesting and varied, making them ideal for an evening of horror films.

For the uninitiated, the shaky framing and very strange start to the film will initially suggest a ‘bad buy’ and a very poor quality film. However, the five completely different and sometimes mysterious episodes will be well worth the diversions.

But for me, the film is really weak and boring!
For those who have better things to do or who hate horror, don’t buy it, it’s not worth it. The trailer looks promising, but the film is weak.

For haemoglobin and thrill-seekers, as well as the more curious, yes… you can always give this a go. Personally, I was curious… but I’m done with V/H/S.

Rating: 1.5 out of 5.
