Not to be confused with I See You (2019).
The world did not end. Since the “Catastrophe”, the survivors have been living with the REMANENTS, the spectres of the dead who replay their final moments indefinitely. No interaction is possible between humans and the so-called REMs. However, Veronica Calder, a young student, is convinced that one of them wants to kill her.
Good old Bella Thorne!
There was a time when I hated her. Without really knowing why. I didn’t really see the point, or why so many people liked her. Then I discovered that she’d made a short film for the Pornhub platform, a year before she opened her OnlyFans site, where she scammed her fans by promising them nude photos of herself, but which she never actually posted…
Anyway!
For me, Bella belonged to a world that didn’t interest me. I did try to see one or two of her films, but I didn’t like them and I didn’t find her extraordinary. In Masquerade (2021), I thought her skin-tight leather outfit was the only interesting thing about some of her films.
But time went by. And I saw her again in films, while discovering that at a very young age she had become an actress, model, singer, producer, novelist, screenwriter and even director. I thought I’d give her another chance. I talk about her as if I were her manager or impresario, but I have no doubt that she doesn’t need me or my advice to succeed! And fortunately for her.
Bella Thorne, real name Annabella Avery Thorne, doesn’t do a genre of music I’m very fond of, but I’ve enjoyed her strongly in some film roles. Ride (2018), for example, at an unforgettable moment (when everyone sings in the car!) that I think about very often. And Amityville – The Awakening (2017) is one of my favourites!
This film is a lot of fun. Sure, it has its moments of boredom, which doesn’t make it a very good film, but I enjoyed seeing it once.
Someone had written that Bella is in a sexy outfit throughout the whole film?!
So… I’d say she’s just beautiful, yes! But in a sexy outfit… no, clearly not! She doesn’t have a jumpsuit like Kate Beckinsale in Van Helsing or Underworld, or a dress like Milla Jovovich in Resident Evil, or…
Anyway!
She’s not wearing a superhero outfit, no! She’s wearing more than normal clothes.
A rather poetic, artistic feature film, a little creepy at times. The dead in the form of ghosts living in harmony with the living, until tragedy strikes.
What a pleasure to see Dermot Mulroney in a film again and again! He knows how to be endearing, but also mysterious and very unsettling. ‘I Still See You’ isn’t really a bad film. It’s just not essential, but it’s a good time to be had. It’s hard to dislike. I can’t imagine people saying “Wow! Worst film ever”, even though there will always be grumpy people everywhere.
Finally:
As you can see, this is more of a dramatic fantasy film than a thriller. Its concept is original, its plot interesting. It’s well acted and rather well shot. I’m a little sorry that the story doesn’t have a wider, global scope, as we don’t know the state of the world, given that the script only focuses on a few people and a single city. But that’s great!
There are plenty of “post-apocalyptic” films out there, but very few manage to surprise viewers. This little film manages to do just that, at least in the first part, which even proves to be captivating.
Easy to follow story. Sometimes far-fetched, but not bad overall. The visuals are quite stunning. Some surprising scenes, especially at the beginning. A little more tension might have been welcome.
Another film that I thought was rubbish because of the bad reviews, but which turns out not to be so bad after all!
