Sorry About That by bis & Art Brut (2025)

What ???
This is totally improbable !!!

Two of my favourite, totally humorous bands of the last thirty years get together for this EP!
When’s the album coming out? ;-P
No, I’ve got to stop being so greedy and make do with the (musical) miracles that life constantly offers me.

Released on 12 December 2025, it was a Christmas present, just like Smash Mouth’s second Christmas album the year before… even if Steve (RIP) wasn’t around any more.

Remember that bis had done a two-track called ‘You Wrecked My Christmas’, an excellent song by the way. The other song was ‘I Was Born On Christmas Day’.

bis is often spelt with a lower-case b! This band is best known for their theme song for Super Nanas/The Powerpuff Girls and that’s a shame, because that’s by far not all they did. It’s clear that if you don’t like bands that take the piss, that play punk or alternative music with a sense of humour, this band is definitely not for you…

…and neither is Art Brut! Like Depeche Mode or Visage, this band has a French-language title, even though they sing in English. Art Brut, like bis, have released a number of albums and have their own particular style. I’d never have thought of them together, but at the same time, it works so well!

It’s like Prozzak doing a collaboration with The Wombats… or something! This reminds me of Franz Ferdinand & Sparks creating an album as FFS! Anything is possible !!!

Ahhhh… I’ve really enjoyed listening to these bands. And I keep coming back to them! And it was while searching for Dream Nails’ first album on Bandcamp that I came across this gift.

The singer of bis has this childlike voice that makes you laugh and smile, but which really fits in with the background! She sounds like an enraged kid when she screams in Punk Rock. Si jamais is an independent pop group formed in 1994. They have split up and reformed many times.

There have been other singers like The Cranes, another great band. And people used to make fun of Kate Bush’s voice before they realised her inimitable and unrivalled talent, unless, of course, you think of Nina Hagen, one of her many influences, like Roxy Music or Pink Floyd.

So there you have it! Do opposites attract? In any case, the first song on the EP is a cover of Paula Abdul’s Opposites Attract. The second is a cover of Cass Elliot’s Make Your Own Kind Of Music. These are two songs I originally liked… but in Art Brut bis sauce, it’s really something! It’s totally their style mixed together. A real delight!

Ideal for dancing, motivating yourself or simply putting a smile on your face and boosting your energy!

Art Brut are a British rock band from Deptford and Bournemouth in England. Formed in 2003, the singer speaks rather than sings. He chants his lyrics. He rarely actually sings, and even his cover of Cure – Catch, he did while talking.

Song 3 is an Art Brut song and song 4 is an encore. They only collaborate on the covers, but that’s not bad. A must for fans of both.

And if you don’t like these bands, go and just make your own music!!!

Rating: 5 out of 5.
