Initiation (2020)

Meh… A film that aims to be extremely subtle, moralistic and intelligent… but alas… I found it extremely boring!

Once again, I knew nothing about this film, I didn’t know what direction it was going to take. I was looking forward to it taking the direction of Countdown (2019). But in the end, it quickly takes the direction of a slasher… which once again fails to renew the genre. It’s as if a bunch of drunken schoolboys managed to remake the famous Scream movie without any resources! Scream remains unchallenged. “Remember Last Summer was also better, as was the first Urban Legend.

For once, it’s mostly guys who get killed. But I have to admit that tonight I didn’t feel like seeing a film full of teenagers, university campuses and fraternities. I was bored with it all and the film just didn’t grab me. And even though the ending seemed thoughtful… I was just glad the film ended.
Minimalist revenge slasher set on an American campus. It’s a copy/paste of what we’ve been served up time and time again, only better.

As for the dialogue, it has no head or tail on several occasions. They are sometimes as vulgar and useless in VO as in VF (VF is almost even worse, as always!).

Pretty flat story, killer seen over and over again. Really not very good…

Average actors? I’d say I was fairly satisfied with the acting, but none of the actors really stood out, which makes for a good cast, but nothing more.

John Berardo has only himself to blame, as he is the producer, writer and director! A film worthy of early afternoon soap operas.

Gen Z’s answer to Scream? Really??? That’s what it says on the cover!
If this is the new generation of slasher, frankly I prefer vintage.

Rating: 1 out of 5.
