There is a heinous crime at the beginning.
Then, the film calms down and there is very little killing between the beginning and the end. But on the other hand, it ends in a real bloodbath, a huge slaughter.
Minnie Driver: we don’t see her much. Too bad, she’s an actress I’d like to see more often.
Allie Macdonald has what it takes to be a great actress. Her performance is almost perfect.
Meat Loaf is always surprising. You never know what’s going to happen with him. The guy’s got talent.
It’s a Scream-style movie, but what makes it original is that it’s a musical. If you don’t like that genre, you’re out of luck!
For horror fans, it’s surprising.
For true musical fans, it must be a shame to mix this art form with gore.
Yep, a mix of two very opposite genres!
It’s very likely that those who turn to this film will enjoy horror, but musicals won’t really be their thing. It’s a difficult mix of genres to pull off properly in order to really keep the viewer on the edge of their seat and hooked. The two should have been mixed more skillfully and made less long-winded. But in life, you have to let yourself be tempted from time to time, at least for certain films! Otherwise, I wouldn’t be writing this review.
The music is good, well arranged, as are the choreographies.
But the story isn’t great and there are quite a few slow parts that bore us, yet again. I’m sure it’s not based on true stories, it’s just the usual publicity stunt in this kind of film.
The first part of the film is painful, with too much singing and not much rhythm. The second part is slightly better, more slasher-oriented and still with a bit of humor. Nevertheless, there is too much space between the murders, and there aren’t enough of them. Fans beware!
The ending is once again faithful to the horror film genre, but it still manages to end rather well.
It just leaves you in doubt, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing, especially if the viewer likes to keep some mystery.
In short:
A musical slasher movie! Yes! The idea alone is appealing, and Stage Fright only fuels the curiosity. It’s… unique! But I didn’t really love it.
Slasher fans, it’s worth watching for its originality. So I could also recommend it to musical fans who want to take a step towards horror! 😃
Welcome!!!
