Miss Nobody (2010) is also known as Bloody Secretary!
And why not call it Deadly Seduction, too, while we’re at it???
I should point out that this film should not be confused with Mr. Nobody (2009), just in case. They have nothing to do with each other! Except perhaps for the fact that they are both very good, in their own way.
Tim Cox seems to have mainly made B-grade horror films, or even Z-grade films such as Alien Lockdown, Metamorphosis – Larva and Mammoth, all of which look extremely bad. Even for my own cultural education, there’s a good chance I’ll never watch them. At least, not in this lifetime! Chances are this film is his only really good work.
I decided to watch this one mainly for the pleasure of seeing Leslie Bibb in a leading role. It doesn’t happen often, does it?
Leslie, who is the partner of the fabulous Sam Rockwell (Moon, Snow Angels, The Green Mile, Charlie’s Angels), has starred in splendid films such as The Inhabitant (2022), Juror #2 (2024), No Good Deed (2014), Awakening the Zodiac (2017), Meeting Evil (2012), and we can even add Law Abiding Citizen (2009). Flight 7500 (2014) is pretty cool, too, as are Iron Man (2008) and Iron Man 2 (2010). But that didn’t stop him, like everyone else, from making mistakes along the way, such as the detestable The Midnight Meat Train (2008) or the relatively ridiculous Sex and Death 101 (2007). As for The Skulls (2000), it was pretty decent and was his first drama film, after starting out on the small screen in the series Popular (1999-2001). I admit that I haven’t seen her series, whether it’s Palm Royale, The White Lotus or Jupiter’s Legacy, but this American actress and model has already come a long way.
Here, there’s dialogue like this: “I thought it was my fiancée on the phone!
- You have a fiancée?
- Yes!
- But I thought you wanted us to date?!
- No, not at all!
- Then what am I doing here?
- Well… you’re my secretary… and I always sleep with my secretaries!!!”
Leslie Bibb constantly breaks the fourth wall in this film, as she talks a lot to us, the audience. It’s quite amusing, actually. It’s as if time stands still so she has time to talk to us, because her fellow characters in the film don’t seem to notice. Deadpool is known for doing this too!
You’ll probably be surprised, but… YES, I really liked this movie! I just can’t classify it as a masterpiece, but I think it’s excellent!
Basically, I was expecting something silly, ridiculous, and downright stupid. That’s probably what most viewers thought, since the movie doesn’t have a good rating and no one around me ever talked about it. It’s a movie that has been unfairly avoided, criticized, and forgotten.
In fact, I even expected to be disappointed by Leslie Bibb, and I didn’t expect to see her in the role of the most adorable and endearing serial killer! Yes, it sounds weird when you put it like that!!! In any case, she shines brightly and is showcased well in every scene. Yes, she lights up the screen in this completely crazy comedy.
I like Adam Goldberg (Saving Private Ryan, A Beautiful Mind, Déjà Vu), but surprisingly, it’s mainly from the series Medium that I remember him! Indeed, his role as a boss who hires people to pay them to do nothing in order to give the illusion that he has a business can be very appealing! Adam was Jake Weber’s boss and didn’t interact directly with the lead actress, Patricia Arquette, in the series.
Goldberg also appears in Sixpence None The Richer’s music video for “There She Goes,” which is, of course, a fabulous cover of The La’s.
The handsome Brandon Routh also has a small role in this film. After making a name for himself in Superman Returns (2006), he voiced Everywhere Man/John Marlowe, a physicist, art collector, and friend of Bruce Wayne, in a cartoon version of The Batman that same year.
In fact, he has had a great career among superheroes, as he returned to the role of Superman in the series The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow. However, in The Arrow, he played the role of Ray Palmer/The Atom.
In the animated series Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, he voiced Todd Ingram.
There was also a new version of Quantum Leap that was launched, but it didn’t last long. The series was canceled after two seasons. There were a total of 31 episodes. It was a revival of the cult series from 1989 created by Donald P. Bellisario (who was one of the three executive producers of this new series). This time, the story takes place in 2022, thirty years after the end of the original series.
Brandon also appears in at least three music videos, including “What a Girl Wants” by the excellent
Christina Aguilera.
Otherwise, I’ve never been a big fan of Kathy Baker, but she made me laugh in this feature film. I even regretted that her role wasn’t longer. That said, she’s in one of my favorite movies: Things You Can Tell Just by Looking at Him (2000). And I also love The Glass House (2001), in which she plays a certain Nancy Ryan.
And I’m going to mention Missi Pyle again, who always makes an impression with her ultra-expressive face and is always a pleasure to see in films such as Josie and the Pussycats (2001), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005), Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay (2008), The Artist (2011), Gone Girl (2014), and Captain Fantastic (2016). Like so many actors and actresses, she has had her share of appearances in series, including The Mentalist, alongside Simon Baker and Robin Tunney.
Miss Nobody isn’t necessarily a family comedy, but the violence isn’t unbearable and the sex scenes aren’t embarrassing. It’s all quite funny, without always being subtle, but it’s very rarely in bad taste.
As a result, this film will not appeal to fans of teen movies, vulgar humor involving drugs, alcohol, naked girls, and college parties. Here, there are no hangovers, no depression, and no swearing every thirty seconds. And that’s really pleasant and very enjoyable.
