Cold Wallet (2026)

It’s a pretty long movie! Yeah, it drags on quite a bit. It’s not necessarily slow, though, because there’s always something going on. Some parts are more interesting than others, that’s for sure!

To be honest, I didn’t really feel like watching this movie, but it was the latest film of its kind to come out (and I’d already seen the previous seven, anyway), there wasn’t much else to choose from that night… and I didn’t have the energy to tackle a two-hour movie or something too deep. So, I’d only have myself to blame if I was disappointed!

If you’re not interested in cryptocurrency, the movie won’t be exciting for you either. That said, the thriller elements revolve around break-ins, burglaries, kidnappings, and extortion. Naturally, in this kind of story, there’s bound to be lies and manipulation.

The dialogue is decent, as is the direction. The humor is biting at times, but there isn’t too much of it. It’s done in a discreet, unexpected, and subtle way.

There’s often a stupid or impulsive person who ruins everything! There are also a few clichés, but it’s hard to avoid them!

There’s a bit of a Suicide Kings (1997) vibe here… but it’s very difficult to match that kind of masterpiece, unfortunately for the viewer.

There are, however, some good suspenseful moments. Not too much violence, no extreme violence, no torture scenes—and that’s always a plus… even if it’s far from being the movie of the century or even a great film, Cold Wallet is still worth watching. A lighthearted little film that does the trick when you’ve got nothing else to watch.

Raúl Castillo is one of those actors who has a knack for getting on my nerves with his roles. And yet, I don’t hate him at all! Since 2005, he’s appeared in quite a few films, such as Permission (2017), Army of the Dead and Night Teeth (both from 2021), Hustle (2022), Smile 2 (2024), and the remake of The Hand That Rocks the Cradle (2025), where his character was very poorly written. In fact, he’s very different here from his last role, but still pretty irritating.

There aren’t a ton of actors in this film. Here’s a quick note on all the main ones:

Melonie Diaz: outstanding in this role as a hacker. She is an American actress who has appeared in numerous independent films, received nominations at the Independent Spirit Awards for her performances in films (2006) and Fruitvale Station (2013), and starred in one of the lead roles as Mel Vera in the Charmed TV series reboot.

Tony Cavalero, an American actor and comedian, clearly plays my favorite character here. Some might say he’s cliché, but his character remains true to his values from start to finish! It’s worth noting that he played Ozzy Osbourne in the movie The Dirt.

Josh Brener is an actor who has appeared in quite a few TV series, but he’s also known for his voice work in animated shows such as Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Star Wars Resistance, and 101 Dalmatian Street. In this film, he plays one of the most annoying characters, and you feel like punching him almost the whole time—but that doesn’t stop him from making you laugh in one or two scenes.

And finally, Zoë Winters doesn’t have a very big role, but she’s a pleasure to watch! Remember that she is best known for her recurring role in Succession (2018–2023)—a dark, satirical comedy-drama—for which she won a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.

Probably worth watching once for anyone who loves thrillers of any kind! For those who aren’t just looking for action and gore, and who aren’t averse to a bit of heartwarming sentiment. Because the ending is beautiful, touching, sad, and powerful. It comes in two parts: you think it’s over, and then there’s another twist. I don’t think this ending is predictable—you should always be wary of those who say everything is predictable!

Rating: 3 out of 5.
