Broken (2006)

Warning: two films with the same title were released in the same year!
This is not the film starring Heather Graham, Jeremy Sisto, Jake Busey and Linda Hamilton, by any chance!

Sadly, the British are also capable of the worst, even when it comes to art!

Personally, I couldn’t bring myself to torture anyone! I consider myself a decent person, but I do find a certain pleasure in watching films like Wrong Turn, Wolf Creek, The Hills Have Eyes and Hostel. But, thankfully, I know my limits! This film has gone way beyond them!

Extremely brutal and, unfortunately, it just gets worse and worse! Once again, we’re being lied to about it being based on true events, even though reality is terrifying, atrocious and horrifying in its own right. But this film loses coherence the further it goes.

The film doesn’t lie or hold back on the violence, though. Within three minutes, you know you’re in for a barrage of repulsive, macabre and vile scenes.

Ultra-gory! If you want to see guts spilling out, scars being ripped open or a tongue being torn out, you’ve come to the right place! What’s more, if you want to see a kidnapped woman having sex with her captor whilst hoping to escape him, that’s a little bonus for the more perverse among you!

It’s apparently clear that a whole host of people appreciate directors Adam Mason and Simon Boyes. They’re pros at filthy, atrocious horror, with no subtleties and on a shoestring budget.

Well, Adam Mason directed Hangman – Welcome Home! (2015), starring Jeremy Sisto, not to be confused with the excellent Hangman (2017) starring Al Pacino.

The actors are very good, though. I’ll particularly remember Nadja Brand Mason’s performance.

Someone simply wrote this comment: “Well, that’s a real shock!”
Indeed, I’m certainly not going to contradict him!!!

After more than 30 days in the forest, the eyeshadow and mascara are still perfectly intact, the hair is freshly washed and the white top is immaculately white, whilst the other woman has clearly had her vocal cords removed along with her tongue. Haha. What utter rubbish!

Of course, I’ll always find completely stupid and ridiculous comments like:
“Look away? Yes, I’ve looked away before, but certainly not because of gory effects, but because this stupid, boring film is really bad!”

A real comment from a thrill-seeking psychopath who lost their brain and heart ages ago! Sad.

Some good ideas, but overall, nothing more than a few scenes of sickening brutality and a very slow narrative of this woodsman’s daily life. There is simply no suspense, except for the beginning. In my opinion, the gory scenes are pushing the limits of what’s bearable. One more step and I probably would have stopped watching.

Here’s a much more down-to-earth review: ‘What a completely daft film. The gore effects are brilliant and make even the most hardened viewers look away. But the rest is utter rubbish. This film isn’t worth it!!!’

There you go, that really restores my faith in humanity!

Rating: 1 out of 5.
