Don’t Move (2024) Not to be confused with the Amanda Evans film also known as Serpent (2017). Nor with the 2004 drama Don’t Move starring Penelope Cruz.
In this film, a seasoned killer injects a grieving woman with a paralysing agent. She has to run, fight and hide before her body shuts down completely. A very similar film to the excellent Alone (2020), in exactly the same vein. But ‘Alone’ has a sense of the important little details that make a difference and a better ending, although the paralysis story here is quite exceptional.
That said, the two lead actresses in these two features are quite equal. There, it was the excellent Jules Willcox and here, it’s Kelsey Asbille who is rather surprising. Both don’t need to do much to be very expressive. Kelsey Asbille Chow is credited as much as Kelsey Chow as Kelsey Asbille (especially when she plays Native American women in various series).
Finn Wittrock is also a very active actor. He appears in both films and series. Excellent in his role here. Every time you see a horrible criminal in a film, you think he’s the worst. But when it comes down to it, they’re all the same, more or less, except for those who attract a little sympathy through their clumsiness, their misfortunes and their touching moments. But the latter are pretty rare, and we certainly don’t see any of them here!
Sam Raimi being one of the film’s five producers is no mean feat! He always knows what he’s getting into. A true psychological thriller, with its atrocious scenes and constant suspense. There’s no physical torture here, and no horror thriller. Which is fine by me, I admit!
Nevertheless, this film can give another terrifying vision of ants in a certain quite striking scene. I’ve never been afraid of ants, but I’ve come to realise that they’re not necessarily our friends!
Another great Netflix film. They’ve definitely improved, because two or three years ago I’d almost given up hope on the cinema.
