Also known as Molly Hartley 2 – The Exorcism (2015) I thought exorcism movies were all the same—that they were stories about pure girls who were in their rooms, got sick, and then there was the whole ritual to save them. But they all have a personal touch.

In “Grace – Possession,” there’s a lot of teenage, college campus, partying, and drinking. Here, it starts with an exorcism scene that ends badly, and a still inexperienced priest loses his duties.

Immediately afterwards, we see a young adult who is in a nightclub. She seduces a man and a woman, takes both of them home, and they have a threesome. We see breasts, buttocks, and naked bodies. They kiss and get ready to make love. A rather rare introduction in this kind of film.

After that, it’s the drama! And the descent into hell that follows. Here, no ultra-religious mother wants her daughter to be pious. It’s an inexperienced priest who will have to perform the anti-possession ritual.

The main trio is pretty good: Father John Barrow, Dr. Laurie Hawthorn, and Molly Hartley herself. Good characters, played by good actors. In this film, the devil/demon has quite a sense of humor. He takes it to the extreme. But he also manages to bite someone and break free of his bonds. That’s stuff I always wondered about. What happens if it happens?

What happens is not necessarily great. But the ending saves this little disappointment. What prevents this film from being a masterpiece is once again the inconsistency.

How can you simply approach a flying body as if nothing had happened? Not to wonder if someone manages to projectile vomit a huge jet more than two meters away? And not to find it abnormal that a woman speaks with a deep voice that is clearly not hers?

Anyway! I still had a good time. I purposely saw the second part before the first. I will see the prequel soon. As the sequels are often not as good, I have a feeling I will like the first one a lot.

Rating: 3 out of 5.
