Breathing Room (2008) also known as “A Room To Breathe.” After The Killing Room, Breathing Room! Although this one actually appeared a year earlier! But it’s still a bit less good.

I’m going to copy & paste a review of The Killing Room, which I think is pretty apt and relevant: ‘To the government, we’re just objects, numbers, and nothing more. They’re having fun with us, using us for their vicious and unhealthy experiments. They turn us into human bombs to serve their interests and manipulate the remaining mass to serve as cannon fodder… it’s beautiful this humanity… NEVER trust your government… NEVER!!’

And then I’m just going to copy and paste my own review of The Killing Room as well, because I don’t think there’s anything to add. Or so little!!!

‘There are one or two things I didn’t find perfect, so I won’t put an Excellent on this film, but…

It’s shocking, striking, surprising, tragic… It can be compared to Saw 1, Cube (with less gore and that’s all to the good!), The Experiment, and even slightly to Seven in terms of psychology.

For those who find it slow: it’s not an action film!

For those who think it’s absurd: you don’t know what the CIA is capable of! What’s more, there’s still a taste of anxiety at the end of the film: what if it’s all true? And just how true? How bad?

You have to be very open-minded to watch this film without being a sensitive soul, not looking for explanations for everything, and not expecting a big Hollywood budget.’

Basically, I liked the first Saw, but not Cube. I liked the idea, but not the way it was handled. The two sequels are pathetic. Even worse!

A low budget indeed, some pretty disgusting moments… but the ending remains surprising (as in mediocre films where only the endings are good), even if you’re slightly expecting it if you’ve seen other films in the style.

To think I didn’t want to see it and was surprised in a good way.

That’s it!

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.
