Horsemen (2009) I found two interesting comments that will help me complete what I think:
- “Alas… good idea at the beginning, but… unfortunately very badly realised. Often the actors even seem unintentionally comical. But this is not due to them, but to the partly almost amateurish direction. Moreover, the various characters are sorely lacking in depth; everything is too superficial and too cliché. Despite a good cast, there is not much left. Conclusion: a completely wasted potential!”
- “Seven for the poor… ! The film is an average Seven brand thriller! The Horsemen is not a cornerstone; it lacks a bit of depth! Unfortunately, the film is long at times, and towards the end, the film crew runs out of steam! The gory scenes don’t make up for it; The Horsemen disappears into the swamp of countless meaningless films! Too bad!”
Otherwise, I’ve also seen comments like: “Catastrophe! Apart from the theft from other films, it’s mostly Quaid’s catastrophic performance that put me off very quickly. In general, I found the acting incredibly bad, almost funny in part because of it. If by the end I am indifferent to pretty much all the characters and only regret the 87 minutes of life lost, then a film actually deserves 0 stars. Anyone who has seen ‘Seven’ will be in physical pain from this film.”
“Weak Current. Wouldn’t even be noticed on TV.”
“Nothing for me… The story is predictable and intended to the extreme… Shame!”
“Predictable. The film wants to be stylish. The first few minutes of the film hook us and make us want to know more. Unfortunately, the film is a bit disjointed and fails to excite us as a whole. The resolution/ending is predictable from halfway through the film and therefore offers no shocking moments. Even Mr. Quaid can’t help it.”
As you can see, this film doesn’t look like it’s going to be much fun. Besides, it’s not well known, and I don’t think you’ve really heard of it. For my part, I have nothing against Denis Quaid, nor against his performance here. Not bad, but far from exceptional, certainly.
As for the Seven comparison: yes, I haven’t found a film that can match the perfection of Fincher’s film in terms of puzzle, investigation, heavy atmosphere, and incredible ending. That’s just it; here, the big problem for me is the ending. I don’t believe for a second in the stupid motive of the fourth and last criminal.
