Species (1995) is a sexy sci-fi thriller.

This movie doesn’t have any of my favourite actors… but seeing Ben Kingsley, Michael Madsen, Forest Whitaker, Alfred Molina, Marg Helgenberger and Natasha Henstridge was a treat!

Especially since Michael Madsen is in a heroic, good guy role.

That was not a foregone conclusion!

More or less the same for Ben Kingsley.

Marg Helgenberger does quite well. In fact, she’ll be back in character for the second half.

Alfred Molina is not the one who has the longest role here. As for Forest Whitaker, he has a sort of gift, a sixth sense, but it is not really well exploited, nor convincing. In the end, you get the impression that everyone has hunches that they follow.

Other than that, it’s good entertainment… but it’s just okay.

It was to be expected that a sequel would be much worse.

Knowing that there are four installments, you don’t need to see 3 and 4 to know that they are totally useless films.

Natasha Henstridge in her debut.

But it’s sad: in the end, it’s only by playing with her charm that she manages to get interest. Her body is her asset… and that’s not great for an actress, unless she’s an X-actress!

She could have used this role to make an incredible career. Alas, I see that people remember her mostly in this role.

What a disgrace and wasted career!

Not very interested in Roger Donaldson‘s filmography. I liked his “The Pact”, but otherwise… not too confident in him to have a good time.

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.
