Alice, Darling (2022) is yet another entry in my ongoing critique of the unremarkable films of the 2020s. This film is so bad that I found myself questioning whether it was a French production. Classified as a thriller, I couldn’t comprehend at what point that classification was justified. The only suspense derived from waiting for something—anything—to happen.
As for its drama, it’s clear that it’s dramatically lacking; making movies like this is downright tragic. Charlie Carrick’s performance as the male lead is utterly flat and devoid of depth. Although actresses Wunmi Mosaku and Kaniehtiio Horn put forth commendable efforts, I couldn’t help but wonder what purpose their roles served in this lackluster narrative.
I have never been particularly fond of Anna Kendrick, and my decision to watch this film, where she plays the central character, proved to be a significant error in judgment. Not only did I waste my time, but this experience has done nothing to improve my perception of her work.
Ultimately, this is another film I felt compelled to endure so that others might avoid wasting their precious time. Life is short, and it passes by too quickly!
