Street Fighter – The Legend of Chun-Li (2009)

Wasn’t too inspired, so I looked at the other reviews and found some gems like:

“I don’t like it….

A score of 1 is still too much and too good a score for this piece of junk!

This movie does not deserve the name Street Fighter at all! Chun Li is miserable in her direction and casting, but the worst part is that she’s not even the worst character. Aside from the fact that very few original characters are used, the ones that did find a place in the film such as Bison, Vega and Balrog are absolutely insolent. Balrog is not a former boxer, but just a big muscle guy who fights savagely, Vega loses to Chun in a totally unspectacular fight in barely 10 seconds, and this without being properly introduced beforehand, and Bison… what can I say, words almost fail me, a snob in a suit who comes across more as a mama’s boy than a power hungry general!

The fights are all a joke and everything was done in a completely confusing way. Besides, Chris Klein as the FBI man and his pseudo-cop colleague are the last straw, they really don’t belong in this film!

Don’t touch that shit!”

“Yes, what can I say…

The director obviously got his start with Uwe Boll.”

“Complete Crash

Far below the bottom drawer, we find another one. Inside, there are things as horrible as this work.

Even the bad version 1 was better :)”

“When will Hollywood understand that Street Fighter is about Ryu and Ken? Everything else is around it…too bad…”

“Oh my god…..

And another bad Street Fighter adaptation. No thanks! Flat movie, poorly realized characters (Bison & Vega a joke!!) and the fights are beyond cheap! For true Street Fighter connoisseurs, this is a disappointment, and even martial arts fans will be disappointed by what is shown. Buy the original Street Fighter manga series instead. It may be drawn, but it is 1000 times more exciting and action packed!”

So Street Fighter with Van Damme was already a joke… but it was better than this one, that’s for sure!

For me, it’s not the spin-off ideas that bother me. I knew the video game (without being a huge fan either), but I like the characters and for me it’s not just Ryu & Ken.

This film allowed me to discover a little bit about Kristin Kreuk and I think she does quite well. We’ll see if she still plays well or not.

As for Neal McDonough, we’re used to his ultra cold and dangerous guy roles!

I’m glad he’s not just playing that!

Rating: 2.5 out of 5.
