Chronicle (2012) One reviewer said, “This film, shot like a documentary, adds nothing to the experience. It’s boring and uninteresting.”
I felt the same way and I wrote: “It was very painful. I just wanted it to end.”
Yup. I didn’t enjoy it. The pacing was off, the plot seemed directionless, and I had a hard time connecting with any of the characters. It’s frustrating when a film has potential but doesn’t deliver.
On the bright side, the story tries to explore some important themes, and the special effects are impressive, showing great creativity. However, the hand-held camera style didn’t help; it made things worse. I’m tired of found footage; it feels overused and often results in shaky visuals that are hard to follow.
That’s it for me. What a disappointment! This film could have achieved more with better execution.
This director didn’t impress me with Fantastic Four either. I hoped for a more engaging take on the material, but it didn’t work. I’m not interested in following his work, as his earlier projects haven’t appealed to me, and this one just reinforces my choice. It’s sad when expectations are high but reality doesn’t match up.
