Delicious (2025) French Title: Exquis which means “exquisite”, is German horror film directed by Nele Mueller-Stöfen.

This is the German actress and screenwriter’s first feature film and I think she should stop there! She’s already done enough damage to the cinema with this film.

The film was shot in a number of unusual locations in the south of France, including Avignon. They finished at the end of November 2023. The film is a Komplizen Film production for streaming provider Netflix.

The south of France in summer: a German family spends the holidays in their villa. The holiday seems perfect, until one evening when, after a restaurant, they welcome a young woman after an accident on the country road. The individual members of the family are helpful to the guest. Over time, everyone wants to use the woman for their own ends. But she also pursues her own goals. As a result, the family’s life begins to change radically.

Another bad film for the year 2025! Delicious (Exquis) starts out quite interesting, but soon loses interest and flavour. I wondered where it was going and how the story was going to end. But it became increasingly accompanied by a deadly boredom. This middle-class family takes in the accident victim, whom they themselves hit with their car, as a cleaner (we never find out why they don’t take her to hospital, as they’re not short of money!). However, we soon realise that this young woman isn’t there just to squeeze money out of them…

There are some pretty nasty scenes (which obviously won’t shock horror fanatics!) and I’d advise vegans and sensitive vegetarians to avoid this film, as there’s a bit too much meat being cut up and eaten.

It started off well, but then became limp and interminable. I was really bored by this very disappointing feature film. And yet, the actors aren’t necessarily bad, the script seems to hold up and you soon find yourself asking a lot of questions. On the other hand, the characters become more and more pathetic and less and less endearing, so we don’t really care what happens to them.

The pacing was bad, the scenes seemed long even when they were short. Oh yes, how long it was! The tension never builds, you expect things to go terribly wrong, but that only happens at the very end, with a nonsensical ending. Yes, that final twist is really lame and not very believable. It’s also disastrous, because at no point can you expect this very polished film to turn into a horror film!

For my part, I went in for a good thriller and ended up with a bad one… er… I don’t even know what genre to classify this film in?Probably in the category of films to forget. The story certainly hints at a drama… but not this one??? Ridiculous!

In the last ten minutes, things suddenly happen very quickly and the credits appear, while we’re still wondering what happened! What a waste of time! I hear Julien De Saint Jean is always on the worst projects (apart from The Count of Monte Cristo, apparently, but I still haven’t seen that).

Okay, no need to write more. It’s full of inconsistencies, there’s not much going on, the dialogue is pretty empty… A German film, but a French-style descent into hell!

Yes, because you really don’t get the impression that you’re watching a German quality film. Avoid this film, move on and don’t waste your precious time, please!
