Death Of Me (2020) is a Darren Lynn Bousman horror film starring Maggie Q.
While I was watching this film, my girlfriend phoned me. I asked her if this film was a waste of time. And unfortunately for me… she was right, because I watched it all the way through. Mainly to write my review, you might say!
I wonder if anyone thought this film was excellent, or even a masterpiece. I’m not sure we’re on the same wavelength if the answer is yes.
Maggie Q, an actress best known for her action films, is once again in a bad film. This is not her first film. This one is a little curiosity to be discovered, without expecting anything incredible from it.
A film directed by Darren Lynn Bousman can’t be a masterpiece either, especially after seeing Saw II, Saw III, Saw IV, and Saw VIII, which are all more or less good. But it was with Mother’s Day (2010) that he proved he was capable of the worst. That said, those who loved all these films will also be disappointed, especially as the gore is so badly done!
Here, we’re treated to a sort of Very Bad Trip, in Thailand, in a horrific genre!
The thrust of the film, the direction it takes, is interesting. We don’t know who’s really dead, we never really know what’s going on. The woman, the main character, is desperately trying to find out what happened. It’s sometimes confusing, but not often well done.
It’s true that the setting is a paradise, but you soon realise that the script is absurd, lacking in coherence, with an accumulation of implausibilities and a cheap interpretation. By the time I got to the end, I was thinking that everything about this film was ridiculous! It mixes thriller and fantasy on the basis of a local ritual, and falls flat on its face with redundant, knee-jerk action. It’s not very captivating, rather confused, the acting is pretty average, as is the direction. At times you get the impression that you’re watching a vulgar TV film, and you’re bored by this story with very little at stake.
Once again, the French dubbing is bad, just like in Fear The Night (2023), also with Maggie! Do the dubbers have a problem with her? And what does she have to do with all this rubbish? And Luke Hemsworth, Chris’s brother? The same! They’ve wasted their time in this very low-budget, low-end feature film.
