Unfollower (2023)

I read a wave of anger against this film with comments like:

  • What kind of dialogue is that?
  • Some films are definitely used to launder money!
  • To tell the truth, it’s more like The Afternoon Television Movie!
  • It’s the worst of the 90s and 2000s!
  • It wouldn’t surprise anyone if the research was done on Internet Explorer under Windows XP!
  • Not even a blockbuster, but a turnip! A DTV !!!

So of course it’s not great art, let alone great cinema.
But I always try to keep an open mind, especially when we’re not being presented with something completely, totally unhealthy.

The film does show that sports coaches are not taken seriously very quickly, and that some potential clients still want to know the details of how they got to where they are. Older, middle-class people are unlikely to take someone seriously who doesn’t have several qualifications or who has trained on the Internet.

This film also reminds us that it’s not easy to press charges, even if your life becomes a living hell. As long as the police don’t have a name or reasons that they deem sufficient, they’re not going to hire just anyone, especially not expensive people like computer experts specialising in cybercrime. No matter how many times you tell them that everyday life has become unbearable and unbearable, they’ll say that there’s nothing they can do, but that you should still make a note of anything strange, unusual or suspicious. That’s reassuring!

The inspectors can give all kinds of advice that sounds like a lot of hot air, that means everything and nothing at the same time. As long as there’s no physical aggression or death threats, things often remain at a standstill. Especially if you’re too nice! I suppose that someone in a high position, who knows all their rights, should be able to put on a good show by saying that they’re going to call their lawyer if the police don’t do their job (properly).

Julie Crisante (who was also in DC Down in 2023) is a great lead actress, but it’s worth noting that she also directed. So well done for all your hard work!
But I’m not sure she’ll ever be able to go out and make any major films.

A TV film with the film strips on the screen! It’s quite amusing.

An entertaining moment, but one that won’t be to everyone’s taste.
I don’t particularly like TV films, but this one isn’t the worst. It’s true that the actors act badly at times, and overact at others. There are limits, though, which mean that it’s neither a hard-hitting film, nor anything shocking. There’s a reassuring, even good-natured side to it, but unfortunately there’s also a very ridiculous side.

The ending could have been much better.

I don’t regret having seen it, even if it’s a waste of time when you know there are plenty of other films to get your teeth into. But on a rainy Sunday when you’ve got nothing to do and you come across this… why not?

Rating: 2 out of 5.
