Homebound (2021) is a British horror film directed by Sebastian Godwin.
Why the hell did they make this film? Anxious at the idea of meeting her fiancé’s children and being accepted, a young woman has to fight for her very survival.
But it started well. The beginning is great. But it deteriorates pretty quickly after that, making the film interminable, even though it’s one of the shortest. It lasts an hour and eleven minutes (1h 11min)! Without the end credits, you’ve wasted sixty-nine minutes of your life.
At the same time, the only review I’d seen of this film gave it 1 out of 10. I should stop thinking that I’m completely different from everyone else!
Move on! Pointless. This film is a complete failure: the plot goes nowhere and there’s no satisfying scene or ending. We’re left hungry, bewildered and with the impression that we’ve wasted our time! That’s certainly true horror!
The kids are all ultra disturbing. Those twins with their pianos, who turn round and let their fingers play a mournful tune… Yes, that’s it, in fact: it’s all sinister here! But without making too much sense.
If I were the mother-in-law, I’d have gone straight into that situation! It’s also something that irritates in these films: the fact that people stay, while all the red signals are on. Between the one spying on her, the one trying to drown her… she should have been alerted, shouldn’t she? And the husband probably suffers from blindness, otherwise it’s not possible!
I’d love to be able to say that it’s been a while since I’ve come across such a bad film, but that’s not the case. Unfortunately, there are too many films out there that are just as bad – long, boring, badly made, with no transcendent actors. Except… Aisling Loftus, who is apparently a good actress. I’d only give her one star!
This first feature film by Sebastian Godwin (who didn’t try too hard or think too much about it) is not easy to watch, despite its short running time, and could have been much more intense, creepy and thrilling than it is. It’s a fine failure in every sense of the word: the direction, most of the actors are one and the same in their mediocrity, and the script is indescribably rubbish.
Too banal and too predictable to really make a splash! I loved the beginning, but I’m sure that’s what people who loved this film will find boring! You can’t say that nothing happens. Quite a lot happens, but without creating any more trauma than that for the main character. What wouldn’t you do for love? Even if it means going completely blind.
The atmosphere quickly becomes worrying and intriguing, but very quickly we understand everything in the script and the direction is too amateurish to really scare the viewer any further. A film that could have been much better if it had had more resources.
It’s a shame to have such great sets and come up with such a piece of rubbish. It’s almost insulting to young directors and screenwriters who have real ideas that can’t come to fruition due to lack of budget. Here we had everything we needed to make a good film, but unfortunately everything’s screwed up, apart from the picture, which isn’t bad.
Homebound is as bad as Southbound (2015) is good. The English are also capable of the worst, even if it’s hard to believe for some.
It’s hard to make a criticism. I don’t even know how to comment, I’m so dismayed. This could have been something really good, but right from the start the very shaky story doesn’t hold together. It’s fascinating, because it’s predictable and at the same time incomprehensible at times…
And… if not… Flee! Flee!!! Flee!!!
